Entrusting The Key
Author: Ali Smith
Book: Christianity
Year of Release: 2010
Every girl dreams of being getting off her feet by the perfect prince – someone who has all the right qualities and attributes a girl could ever want in a partner. We all have our lists, with little variations here and there. In essence, most women have a basic set of non-negotiable requirements in a mate that just cannot be bargained with.
In search of that perfect one, we go through a series of trial-and-error relationships in the hope of stumbling into Mr. Right. But really, are we in a position to receive that “Perfect One,” the one He created for us to love and be with for the rest of our lives?
Entrusting the Key is a delightfully written book on the struggles of being single in a world that promotes belongingness. Filled with stories of her relationships, Ali shares with us what she has learned from her experiences – the joy of patiently waiting for the Right One without compromising the things you fundamentally believe in, the comfort and solace found in fully trusting God during our “seasons of singleness” and the unmistakable peace found in developing and basking in a relationship with the One who loves us unconditionally before embarking on a life-long commitment with someone else.
As I was reading Ali’s journey through singlehood in this book, I was amazed at how our struggles and prayers parallel each other despite the vast difference in our circumstances as we search for “The One.” Indeed, our concerns as single women waiting on His will in the area of love and relationships are universal. Witty and abundant with her own experiences as she progresses from serial dating to joyful waiting, the book depicts a true picture of a single woman’s heart – her deep longings, her ups and downs, the invisible battles she goes through as she waits for her prince. Written in simple prose, Ali is able to transcend generations of women who have gone through similar experiences and remind them that we need to put God first in everything, to put God first, before anyone. The book reminded me that we need to be in a close relationship with Him to be able to listen to that still, small voice and transform our hearts, resulting in total obedience and trusting Him in everything.
This book has instilled in me the value of waiting and trusting The One who holds my future in His hands, and I recommend this book to those who are still on the journey – fellow travelers on the road to finding God’s will for their life in the aspect of relationships. As you read through Ali’s crafty recollection of her experiences, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly amazed at how God can make you realize important lessons that we all need to be reminded of when it comes to matters of the heart.
